**CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C.** — A routine traffic complaint escalated into a multi-charge arrest involving alleged drug trafficking and impaired driving on March 31, 2026.
According to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of careless and reckless driving before locating the suspect vehicle. After observing multiple traffic violations, a traffic stop was initiated.
During the stop, deputies conducted an investigation and requested a K-9 unit. The K-9, identified as DAX, assisted in establishing probable cause, leading to a search of the vehicle.
Authorities reported locating multiple controlled substances inside the vehicle, including methamphetamine, LSD in gel tab form, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies indicated that the quantities of methamphetamine and LSD were consistent with distribution.
The driver, Luther Credle, 37, of Chesapeake, was taken into custody and faces several charges, including:
Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance
Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance
Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substances
Driving While License Revoked
Driving While Impaired
Simple Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance
Possession of Marijuana (more than 1/2 oz up to 1 1/2 oz)
Failure to Maintain Lane Control
Following the arrest, Credle was issued a 48-hour hold and transported to the Currituck County Detention Center, where he remains in custody.
Officials also confirmed that the vehicle involved in the incident was seized under North Carolina’s impaired driving seizure laws.
