Two arrested after Currituck SWAT deployment following shooting incident

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at about 9:00 p.m., the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a shooting. Over the next several hours, investigators identified multiple suspects in connection with the incident. In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 2, at roughly 3:30 a.m., the county’s SWAT team executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Maple Road, resulting in the arrest of **Phillip Burd**, age 18. Later that same day, around 5:30 p.m., simultaneous search warrants were carried out in the 100 blocks of Faris Drive and Holly Crescent within the Walnut Island subdivision. During those operations, a **17-year-old juvenile** was taken into custody. Evidence supporting the shooting allegations and other offenses was recovered at those locations. Both suspects are also believed to have been involved in a series of break-ins in Currituck County. During the searches, law enforcement agents recovered evidence linking them to burglary and theft cases. **Charges and custody** * **Phillip Burd** is charged with:   • Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle   • Breaking and Entering   • Larceny After Breaking and Entering He is being held in the Currituck County Detention Center with **no bond**. * **The 17-year-old juvenile** faces:   • Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle   • Breaking and Entering   • Larceny After Breaking and Entering   • Possession of Stolen Property He has been transported to the Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center and is also held **on no bond**. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is still active and more details may be released as it develops.
