Two arrested after Currituck SWAT deployment following shooting incident

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at about 9:00 p.m., the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a shooting. Over the next several hours, investigators identified multiple suspects in connection with the incident. In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 2, at roughly 3:30 a.m., the county’s SWAT team executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Maple Road, resulting in the arrest of Phillip Burd, age 18. Later that same day, around 5:30 p.m., simultaneous search warrants were carried out in the 100 blocks of Faris Drive and Holly Crescent within the Walnut Island subdivision. During those operations, a 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody. Evidence supporting the shooting allegations and other offenses was recovered at those locations. Both suspects are also believed to have been involved in a series of break-ins in Currituck County. During the searches, law enforcement agents recovered evidence linking them to burglary and theft cases. Charges and custody Phillip Burd is charged with:   • Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle   • Breaking and Entering   • Larceny After Breaking and Entering He is being held in the Currituck County Detention Center with no bond. The 17-year-old juvenile faces:   • Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle   • Breaking and Entering   • Larceny After Breaking and Entering   • Possession of Stolen Property He has been transported to the Pitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center and is also held on no bond. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is still active and more details may be released as it develops.
