DARE COUNTY, N.C. — April 2, 2026 — A late-night traffic stop in the Manns Harbor area resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old Kill Devil Hills resident on multiple drug-related charges, according to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies assigned to the B-District initiated the stop at approximately 9:55 p.m. on April 1 along U.S. Highway 64 after observing a traffic violation. During the encounter, deputies developed probable cause to search the vehicle.
According to officials, the search led to the discovery and seizure of what authorities described as a felony amount of controlled substances.
The driver, identified as Kira L. Walters, 19, of Kill Devil Hills, was taken into custody and charged with:
- Felony Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance
- Felony Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance
- Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
- Speeding
Walters was issued a $3,000 secured bond.
